I'm the director of Social Systems Lab that is responsible for Kamooni, so I'm the one to yell at if things don't work properly!

About

You know that sign in shared toilets that reads something like: "As a courtesy to the next guest, may we suggest that you use your paper towel to clean the handbasin"? I kind of feel that that is our duty when we come to this planet, to leave it in a better shape than we found it. To be custodians. To clean up messes. to make things better. To regenerate.

As humans, we don't have to follow the slow path of evolution, be it random or purposeful, but can make conscious and collective decisions. We are nature hacking itself, speeding things up. It is a risky thing for nature to do, the consequences of human creativity shaped by the systems we have created to reward some forms of creativity over others, have brought us to a number of tipping points. We might make it to the stars as a species, we might just be a blip that could have been a beacon but faded away as quickly as it appeared on the cosmic scale of things. What is for sure, at least to me, is that if we do not come up with a system that rewards life-affirming, future-creating, and opportunity-increasing creativity, to paraphrase Alex&er, then we will indeed become nothing more than a blip.

So, let's not be a blip! Let's use the time and opportunity we have to create something far better, something that will encourage our highest potential as a species.

This is part of Kamooni's purpose, to be a testing ground for new ideas and processes, free from commercial distraction or any other motives than for us to be the best were can be, together.

My offers & skills

On the hands-on level, I have decent DIY skills and would be happy to help on projects that involve basic carpentry and construction. Though I have limited skills in gardening, I'm happy to get my hands in the soil, and though I am by no means a chef, I'd be happy to assist in standars soup kitchen duties. I'd be happy to assist with any basic volunteering tasks needed that your average human can be expected to perform. I can even handle a bit of welding, but it won't be pretty. ;)

In the minds-on realm, I can be a great sounding board for product development and project management (I've probably made all the mistakes at this point). I can assist with (very) basic web design and I'm always happy to offer feedback in areas I have experience in. Basically, and bearing in mind time constraints, I'm happy to offer assistance in the planning if not the execution of most projects. If there is one area I excel, it's probably ideation. So if you have the bones of an idea and you'd like more meat, I'm your man. :)

What I want to engage in

My cup runneth over with the tasks needed to get Kamooni off the ground, but inasmuch as I have spare time, I'd love to engage in local projects that are more hands-on. I'd like to engage more with my community and create stronger connections through practical projects.

What I need help with

Personally, I don't have that many needs, but there are quite a few tasks we need help with at Kamooni. Of course, we need more dedicated test pilots to use the platform as a practical tool in their projects, so we can find out what works and what doesn't, and get suggestions on what to improve.

In order to reach more users and get more members, we could use a lot of help on our marketing and outreach team. We're especially interested in mission driven, participatory organisations and networks that want to activate grassroots and have and impact on society.

Of course, we are always looking for more developers and UX-designers to help us improve the features and look of the platform.

And finally, funding to pay for all the above. We'd love help with our outreach to various types of funders. Long term partners, corporate and non corporate, more limited sponsors from aligned businesses, help with grant writing and even introductions with high network individuals who might like to throw some money into our end of the open-source pool.
